Intensive Pronouns

Definition:

Intensive pronouns can be very similar to reflexive pronouns.

An intensive pronoun puts an emphasis on the other nouns or pronouns in the sentence.

Intensive Pronouns:

1. myself 2. himself
3. herself 4. itself
5. ourselves 6. yourself
7. themselves  

 

Example:

1. He himself will do the work.
*Notice: himself puts an emphasis on he in the sentence.

2. She herself is responsible for the bake sale.
*Notice: herself puts an emphasis on she in the sentence.



Reflexive Pronouns

Definition:

Remember, intensive pronouns can be very similar to reflexive pronouns.

Reflexive pronouns always renames the noun in the sentence.

Pronouns:

1. myself 2. himself
3. herself 4. itself
5. ourselves 6. yourself
7. themselves  

Example:

1. He looked at himself in the mirror.
*Notice: He is the noun and himself is the reflexive pronoun.

 

She shocked herself with the computer.
