Nouns Followed by Infinitives

Definition:

Using the rules of the prepositions taught earlier. A speaker will use adjective + preposition + verb in order to express the way they feel about a certain action.

Sentence Structure:

adjective + preposition + verb

Example:

1. She's quick to move.

2. Seth's slow to learn.

 



Verb + Preposition Followed by a Gerund

Definition

Verb + preposition is used when the speaker would like to give the preposition an action.

Sentence Structure:

Verb + Preposition

 

Example:

1. She's putting on her shoes.

2. Michael's running around me.



Noun + Preposition Followed by a Gerund

Definition:

Using the rules of the prepositions, a speaker can give a more detailed description of the noun they are using.

Sentence Structure:

noun + preposition + gerund

Example:

The author's book about reading was very good.
